What does a speech therapist do?
Speech language pathologists (SLPs) help develop communication skills, both verbal and nonverbal. Speech therapy treats speech and language disorders. Someone may benefit from speech therapy with or without an official medical diagnosis. SLPs can assess and treat receptive/expressive language delays or disorders related to feeding, social communication, articulation, auditory processing, social skills and stuttering.

Articulating certain sounds
With fluent speech – stuttering
Using words, phrases, and sentences to communicate at an age appropriate level – needs help using words to communicate and/or turning words into phrases
Understanding information such as directions or questions – needs help understanding words spoken to them
Organizing information and regulating behavior
